OWASCO STAGE RACE UPDATE:

Due to several circumstances INCLUDING lack of registered riders, the Owasco Stage Race scheduled for July 18-19 will now ONLY be a Road Race on Sunday July 19.

Let's go GVCC - sign up for the road race and support a GREAT WNY race!!  Dean Furnia pours all a lot his soul and blood into putting this event on and has been taking heat from his community for having it - show them all that we want racing! - TS

Parish Hill 6/30

Women:
Iffy weather didn't discourage 6 women from coming out to one of the GVCC's most feared courses - Parrish Hill. The 6 lap race was exciting from the gun and by the second turn, 6 had become 4. By the end of lap 1, the lead group was down to 3 though - Chris Schryver and Shana Lydon (FMV) and Jen Rea (Nalgene/R3). Schryver and Lydon made Rea work - attacking and countering without mercy (Don't hate us Jen :)). Schryver's dropped chain on lap 3 opened up an opportunity for Rea, but Schryver chased her way back on and climbed her way to first place. It wasn't her usual TT/break away though as Lydon and Rea were close behind taking 2nd and 3rd. Kelly Welker and Sara Ture rode strong to a 4th and 5th place finish - nice work! . - SL

As: With no place to hide on the G-Tour's toughest course, natural selection was forced and the strongest riders, Scheske (MVP), Grimm (FMV), Douglas (Park Ave) and Staffo (Handlebars) rode away from the rest. Eric Grimm claimed the number one spot over the elite group and has now won Parish Hill two years in a row. - MM

Jon Dechau Time Trial:

Another JDTT is in the books.Congrats to all the racers who came out to support the U23 fund and thanks to all those who made the event possible. - MM

Thank you for all the hearty participants who didn't let a little rain keep you away from supporting the 3rd annual Jonathan R. Dechau Time Trial and the U23 rider fund.  Jon raced in sun, rain, sleet, hail and snow and would have been out there today - skinsuit, disc, and shoe covers ready to lay down the law - and I'm sure he would have been proud of everyone's effort today.

Thanks to Full Moon Vista for tents, podiums, sound etc and BIG thanks to Shana for her killer work all day.  Thanks to Bob from Pedallers Bike Shop as well for his helping hands in any area that needed it.  And thanks Judy Dechau for the bagels, muffins and hot coffee! - TS

Open letter from GVCC President - Todd Scheske

Looking to flip the script a little in 2009 and do something extraordinary? Think you have what it takes to take on some over the top racing?  Check out El Reto Del Quetzal!!  El Reto is an endurance mountain bike race in Guatemala.

Drop me a note if you are interested - it is teams of two and sign up is going on now!  THIS IS A RACE NOT A TOUR!!  If you have never MTB'd in Central and South America you have NOT MTB'd!  Jungle, clay mud, volcanoes, exotic animals (yes - snakes included) and some of the most technically challenging and beautiful terrain. - TS

Empire Cycling Championships

Saturday June 6th and Sunday June 7th, 2009

A demanding picturesque road course and a non-technical spectator friendly criterium marked the Empire Championship weekend.  The event  was highlighted by the Full Moon Vista crew's attention to detail with a knack for making every event showcase the riders and our sport.

Racing was highlighted with dominating rides from Janel Beddard (MVP Healthcare Cycling), Brendan Housler (JW DUNDEES), Volodymer Spantchek (NY Printing) and Mike Mathis (Empire).  These riders not only won races but stamped their authority on them.  A big congrats on their successes!  Also of note is some cat 3 men that threw their hat in the ring this weekend - namely Andy Lytwynec and Dan Barney.  These guys showed true grit riding against riders of higher category on an extremely tough parcours and NEVER giving up.  You guys have the passion that IS cycling.  Be proud and keep improving.

HUGE thanks to Scott Page and Full Moon Vista crew (Kyle, Shana, Big John and Zoe) for their work putting this event together.  Remember to support those who support cycling and patronize their business so they can continue to support/grow cycling.

Thank you also to all the officials and volunteers who gave their time marshaling, registering people, driving and helping out etc.  Without you all the races couldn't happen. - TS
