The Preferred Care Elite Team
|
The Preferred Care Cycling Team is comprised of elite cyclists in Western NY who will be competing in numerous regional and national Pro/Am bicycle racing events this season. The team formed in 2002 through a partnership with Preferred Care to promote bicycle safety to children while promoting bicycle racing as a sport that encourages a healthy lifestyle, traditional work ethic, and commitment. This elite team is also supported by, Handlebars Cycle Co., Nike, Shimano, Born Sport Care Products, Van Dessel Bicycles and Giro Helmets. Members of the team are all accomplished riders who, together, bring a rich history of top level amateur racing. Their talents consistently place riders in the top of most local, regional and even national races. In past years, members have competed in some international events in countries such as Italy, Venezuela,The Dominican Republic, and Trinidad. For the current season, the team plans to race in almost 30 regional or national events and will compete in over 60 events total. The focus will be on honing skills and fitness in smaller events for races that will include the National Championships in Kentucky as well as the Elite NationalChampionships in Chicago and larger road events in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In early part of the 2003 season, the team focused on the regional NY Maxxis Tire series paying particular attention to the Perinton road race in Rochester on April 13th, as it is located in Preferred Care’s primary target area. Indeed, the Pro/1/2/3 race was won by Preferred Care's own Todd Scheske in a thrilling sprint finish against pro rider Mike Jones of Team West Virginia. When the team is not racing, Preferred Care Elite Cycling promotes bicycle safety to children 8 to 13 years old through bicycle rodeos. These events focus on teaching children safety and riding skills as well as helmet use. The events provide immeasurable value for kids teaching them accident avoidance skills and the importance of wearing helmets. Watch for Team Preferred Care members training on the roads around Rochester and your neighborhood!
