Interlakes Cycling Team
|
The Interlakes Cycling Team was formed during the winter of 2002/2003. The inspiration for forming a team came from a few of us that felt that it would be the best way to get the most out of racing and out of ourselves. After all, bicycle racing is a team sport that relies on individual performances! Instead of going out to races and duking it out as individuals, why not try our hand at team tactics? One of the great things about bicycle racing is that it's not just a physical endeavor. It's also a rolling chess match, played out on two wheels, at 30 mph! Another reason for the formation of our team is the tremendous growth of the GVCC in general. As result of this growth, several teams have formed that compete within (and outside of) the club events. We saw this as an incentive to form our own team or be left out! One of the great things about having an affiliation with a team is the support we give one another. In both training and in races we put more into our efforts because each of us knows that we have teammates counting us. There are currently 11 members on the team. The roster was selected from guys that have known and ridden/raced with each other for the past few years. We also have some members that are new to road racing. In that respect, we could be considered a developmental squad. However, most of us are a tad "mature"... the average age on the team is over 40! Hey, we can't help it if we got a late start in the sport! |

Frank Steiner, Chris Williams, Mark Dux, Bob Wells, Gary Schwenck, Mark Dunn, Dave Rowley, Mark Rowley, Pete Pelychaty, Mike Dispenza, Jim Fetten (not in picture) We have posted some excellent team results so far this year. Many of our names can be found in the season points competition within the GVCC. We have also "graduated" Mark Dux, Gary Schwenck, and Jim Fetten to the GVCC "A" group. This group is the elite of bicycle racers in the Rochester area, with some of them competing on a national and international level! Racing with this group is not easy, and it is the goal of the rest of us to join Mark, Gary and Jim. In addition, we have competed in, and posted good results in some of the regional USCF races. Consult our webpage for up to date results. Thanks for reading! |
